Internet

Norway has internet access at many libraries, internet cafés, hotels, and airports. Wi-fi connections are available in many public places.

For private accounts, there are a number of internet providers: telephone companies and cable TV companies offering broadband, fast-track, and fiber net accessibility. Availability depends on the area of residence.

Language

Norwegian is the official language in Norway but general knowledge of English, Swedish, and Danish is excellent. Many people are fluent in English. Familiarity with French and German is also common.

Although Norwegians do not expect foreigners on assignment to learn their language, there are many options for language instruction for foreigners if one is interested.

The Sons of Norway offers a free and easy online course for basic Norwegian.

The use of mobile phones in Norway is wide spread and starts at a very young age.

TIP!  Lebara mobile offers a good temporary solution to mobile phone needs for both local and international phone calls. Phone cards and brochures are available at most convenience stores: Narvesen and 7-11.
