Why is our team uniquely qualified to assist you in making a smooth transition to life in Norway?

There is a general lack of mobility amongst the Norwegian population that affects the Norwegian culture quite dramatically. Most Norwegians have lived in their home country—most often in their home town—their entire lives and have never had a problem. Therefore it can be difficult for the locals to understand that anyone else would have a problem getting established in Norway.

We feel that our qualifications as expats, or people who have lived outside of Norway for long periods of time, are particularly relevant to our task. We have all been in the same situation that our assignees face. We have a unique understanding of the needs and requirements for assistance and support.

We all speak and write both Norwegian and English fluently. In addition, we have a thorough knowledge of the Norwegian culture and lifestyle. 

Our enthusiasm for Norway is great and we are anxious to assist our clients in making a positive transition to living in Norway. We aim to make the experience enjoyable too!

Nancy Sandmæl

Founder and owner of Doorway to Norway, Nancy is a native Californian, with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California in biology and education. She speaks and writes Norwegian fluently and has been a permanent resident of Norway (Oslo) for more than 20 years. Nancy enjoys music, travelling and hiking.

Alex Brut-Christensen

Our assistant in Oslo, Alex is a native of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Penn State University. She speaks and writes Norwegian fluently and has been a permanent resident of Norway for more than 20 years. Alex enjoys traveling, reading and patchwork quilting.

Gaye Rosland

Our consultant in Stavanger, Gaye is a native of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Delaware in Education. She speaks and writes Norwegian fluently and has been a permanent resident of Norway for more than 20 years. Gaye enjoys music, the theater and volunteering.

Helene Solbjørg Fjortoft

Our consultant in Bergen, Helene was born in Norway but has spent much of her adult life in New York as a real estate broker.She speaks and writes both Norwegian and English fluently. Helene enjoys cooking, skiing and tennis.
